Mirror Location - File contents

Our first step had been to analyse the log files left behind by the mirror program. Since these aren't available for a large number of Mirrors (e.g. those using rsync), other approaches are desirable...

1) Look at the file contents themselves, calculating MD5 or similar checksum. This requires us to either:

actually harvest the files and calculate the checksum ourselves , or
get the server admin to generate the digest values for us, e.g. via a cron job

May be worth taking this further in the context of the proposed pan-European academic indexing project.
