Mirror Location - File/directory names

2) Look at directory contents, calculating MD5 checksum based on concatenating the names of the files, file sizes, and perhaps timestamps ...

  -r--r--r--   1 martin  flotsam  9806 Apr 21 16:04 roads-v2.2/README

...and then calculating MD5 on the result, i.e.

  9806Apr2116:04roads-v2.2/README - 33745fa83c51630cafe1d82b21418b90

or: 

  9806roads-v2.2/README - 80930c2fb148347e0600277d01b7f5e4

Directory listings are, conveniently, available from ftpsearch, so we don't have to go out and generate them ourselves.
