Integrating mirroring and caching - theory

Individual Web Caches can run redirector scripts which selectively rewrite some of the URLs requested from them, e.g. from:

  ftp://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME
to:

  ftp://ftp.net.lut.ac.uk/gnome

(etc)

But ideally the Mirror service would advertise itself as 'best match' Web Cache for both the original resource and known high quality replicas.
